Vatican Urges US and Israel to Halt Ongoing Mideast War
Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin told reporters that he would advise US President Donald Trump “to put an end to it as soon as possible, because the real danger is that an escalation is just around the corner. I would say: leave Lebanon alone,” according to reports from Vatican sources.
He added that the same appeal should be directed toward Israel, encouraging it to “resolve any problems that may exist—or that they believe exist—through the peaceful paths of diplomacy and dialogue.”
Reports indicate that hostilities have intensified since the United States and Israel launched a joint offensive against Iran on February 28, which has reportedly resulted in around 1,300 deaths, including senior figures such as the then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
In response, Iran has carried out drone and missile attacks targeting Israel, as well as Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries hosting US military assets, leading to casualties, infrastructure damage, and disruptions to global markets and aviation.
